영국의 헤비메탈 밴드 딥 퍼플의 노래. 9집 "Stormbringer"의 마지막 트랙이다. 기존의 메탈 사운드에서 소울, 블루스로 성향을 바꾼 딥 퍼플의 음악성을 느낄 수 있는 곡으로, 새로 들어온 보컬 데이빗 커버데일과 리치 블랙모어가 함께 작곡했다. 발라드를 선호하는 한국이나 일본에서도 잘 알려져 커버데일이 후에 화이트스네이크 활동 당시에도 공연에서 많이 불렀다. 한국에서는 임재범의 리메이크가 유명하다.

노래 제목인 솔저 오브 포츈은 직역하면 '행운의 병사'이라는 뜻이지만 올바른 번역은 '용병'이다. Fortune이란 단어는 행운이라는 뜻도 있지만 돈이란 뜻도 있어 '돈의 병사', 즉 용병이라고도 해석되기 때문이다.

가사 내용은 화자가 마치 돈을 따라 이곳저곳을 떠돌아 다니며 싸우는 용병 같은 자기 삶의 비애를 토로하는 내용이다.
